3.1.2 Blackra1n jailbreaks OS iPhone

March 21st, 2010 | Tags: , , , , , ,

10. You can now choose to install one or more of your favorite installer apps: Cydia, Rock, or Icy. (Note: my personal favorites are Cydia and Icy.) Blackra1n will download and install your selections, the Springboard will be restarted, and your installed installer app icons will appear.

What you need:>PC running Windows XP or Vista>Download Blackra1n using from blackra1n.com

Blackra1n new recovery mode image is a cropped version of this picture.

3. If you haven’t already plugged your iPhone or iPod Touch into your computer, connect it now with the USB sync cable. 4. Launch Blackra1n and click on the button “make it ra1n.”

The new Windows-only utility follows on the heels of Purplera1n and you can download it now. Windows users can use it to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 on all iPhone and iPod Touch models regardless of their hardware generation. Using the application is simple. You just plug in your iPhone or iPod Touch using the standard USB sync cable and follow the instructions below.

5. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will go into recovery mode. A picture of GeoHot will replace the standard recovery mode image on your device.

iPhone OS hacker, GeoHot, released Blackra1n this weekend, a new jailbreak utility for iPhone OS 3.1.2.

2. Install Blackra1n and reboot your PC.

11. After you have confirmed that your selected installer app is working, you can then optionally uninstall Blackra1n by launching it and tapping the button labeled “Uninstall blackra1n.”

Tell us about your experiences with this jailbreak in the comments.

8. Once your device has rebooted, a new icon–Blackra1n–will appear on the Springboard. You now need to confirm that your device can connect to the Internet.

Standard disclaimers apply. Please read your contract terms of service carefully before proceeding to ensure that you are not breaking your iPhone carrier agreement or warranty. Also, while these methods have worked for most people, we cannot guarantee that they will work for you, and you must make these modifications at your own risk. If you do not feel comfortable making these modifications to your phone, we urge you not to try to make them.

12. Reboot your device my pressing and holding sleep/wake and home until the Apple logo appears. You’re now done!

Jailbreak evidence for Blackra1n

6. Blackra1n will execute and perform the jailbreak on your device and the device will be rebooted.

1. Launch iTunes and check to ensure that you are running version 9.0.1. If you are not, then update your iTunes before proceeding and reboot your PC.

7. An opportunity will present itself for you to make a donation to GeoHot.

Notes:

  • BlackRa1n does not unlock your iPhone so that it can be used with another carrier.
  • If you have already updated to 3.1 or higher and you did not use PwangeTool to upgrade from an earlier iPhone OS version, then you will not be able to unlock your iPhone until PwangeTool is updated.
  • iPod Touch third-generation users take heed–Blackra1n only supports a tethered jailbreak. If your battery is depleted after the hack, then you will have to reconnect your iPod Touch to a computer and use the Blackra1n utility to reboot it.

Updated on October 12, 2008 at 7:29 a.m. PDT: Comments from mohabitar and eisenhower1803 indicate that installing Cydia and Icy at the same time is not recommended.

Difficulty level:Easy

9. Launch Blackra1n on your device.

    Velvetpunch

Do a restore, NOT FROM A BACKUP, but a clean slate restore of 3.1.2. Then Jailbreak. Will work perfect.

Sooo Holy sheaat!! My first jailbreak!!! Finally!! I feel like a ***** jailbreak expert now after all the hours of research to finally find the perfect jailbreak recipe!!!

So here it is,,, JOsh got it right but I stumbled upon another step and wooopppeeee it worked!!!
I’m running vista ultimate 64 bit, ESET smart security (disabled all antivirus, firewall and even anti spam)
new iphone 3gs that had 3.11 5.11.07 out of the box, Upgraded to 3.12 current att service.
    Latest version of itunes.

    Ok, JOshs’ method:
**disable all anti virus, firewall and even anti spam** (Not sure if that helped, but part of my solution so maybe a key?)
    1. Restore your iphone 3g to 3.1.2
    2. Close Itunes
    3. Turn off your iphone
    4. Kill ituneshelper.exe
    5. Download blackrain, move it to the root of your C drive.
    6. Run blackrain.exe as administrator, nothing else needed !!** I did not put program in winxp compatibility mode**!!
    7. Click make it rain
    8. Hold down home and power button, as soon as you see the apple logo release the power button, continue to hold the home button.
    9. Release home button when you see geohot?s picture.
    10. Let it do its thing.

**11.** I had to turn the phone off complete ly by unplugging USB cord. (Note Blackra1n is still running in the background)
**12.** Plug it back in and repeat step 8.
Geohots face came up and it rebooted!!
BoooYaaaa!!! Finally no more itunes restore.

So, can someone please give me some links for the must have apps and what to do’s with my paroled phone? I’m gonna give 91 pc suite for iphone a try. Don’t care about unlocking. Tethering, 3g unlock and config/functionality apps are of interest. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks to GeoHot and JOsh for popping my jailbreak cherry!! ;-)

    Just incase this helps:

    @isjeremy:

No you don’t. I have rebooted my device on more than 1 occasion and I did NOT need a re-jailbreak. Maybe because I have an iPod touch 2G on 3.0 firmware.

If someone has any suggestions I’d appreciate it.
I tried using blackra1n and have been unsuccessful.
I followed the directions to a t and am unable to jailbreak
my phone. I was jailbroken previously with redsnOw.
I have an iPhone 3G, previously with 3.0 software.
I updated to 3.1.2 as per instructions and installed blackra1n
under proper combatibility mode and as administrator but when
I try to “make it rain” i only get the regular screen “usb plug into iTunes”
screen and a blackra1n saying “entering recovery” but nothing happens.
Afterwhich I have to recover my phone and then proceed to use latest backup(a
long procedure) in order to get my phone up again.
Basically I’m stuck now with an unjailbroken phone.
At least I can send pic messages, whoopie!
    Please help

    Kinda iffy with the ipt3
Alot of Cydia apps are incompatible with ipt3 I believe
Also, because it’s tethered, you must use blackra1n everytime you reboot the device

    What a pain.

WARNING: Do not install Cydia and Icy BOTH at the same time. That will cause an error with Cydia that is only fixable by a full system restore. I learned the hard way..

1st time jailbreak on my 32GB 3GS running 3.1.2. Easiest thing ever, took 20-30 secs. I was worried because i have my iphone synced to my mac, not my PC (vista) but I just made sure iTunes was shut down (and stayed shut down) and that was it. I did my and my wife’s phone in less than 2 minutes.

I did install all three apps store (cydia, icy and rock). Cydia told me there was a problem and it gave me the option to fix itself, one click and problem was solved.

As for apps, i installed PdaNet for tether: works great no problems.I also installed categories and G.O.C theme. also no problem. But for some reason winterboard itself will not work (wife want pink keyboard))

I would love a list of great jailbreak apps-thanks

The easiest jailbreak ever. I had small hang when I tried it the first time as I downloaded it to my desktop. That was corrected when I copied it to by C: root and retried.

yeah you can, besides if it bricks your phone just do a full restore via iTunes and it should fix any issue, it would kinda suck regarding all the apps youll lose in cydia but hey thats the risk

You made that way more complicated than it is. Here’s the process I used (and I even threw in a couple extra steps than what is really necessary).

    1. Update to 3.1.2 via iTunes
    2. Unplug phone from computer.
    3. Start blackra1n.
    4. Plug phone into computer.
    5. Click “Make it ra1n”
    6. Let it do it’s thing.
    7. After phone reboots, launch blackra1n app.
    8. Install Cydia, Rock, or Icy.
    9. Launch blackra1n app and uninstall blackra1n.

Your method simplified worked for me.
    - I kept getting the USB Connect symbol.
    - I am on Rogers in Canada on 3.1.2
    - Your description made sense once I read it. The old Jailbreaks required DFU mode not restore mode.
    - I didn’t use the “Run as Administrator”.
    - I ran Blackra1n WITH my phone “OFF” but connected.
    - Blackra1n said “Waiting for phone…”
    - I did the old Redsnow technique.
    – Hold Home and Power for 10 seconds.
    – Keep holding Home, release the Power button…and keep holding it until GeoHot shows up.
    - Install only Cydia upon restart. Don’t shutdown Blackra1n until you have Cydia installed.

    Hope this Helps Everybody!!!!

    YES it woks fine.
i have an iphone 3gs with FW 3.1.2 and i didn’t jailbreak my phone before.
    it works just fine. but:
NEVER INSTALL CYDIA AND ICY AT THE SAME TIME. a full iPhone restore is required (if you install both at the same time).

Hi I’m pretty new to this unlocking/jailbreaking game, and after having my last firmware fully ulocked and jailbroken…i managed to brick my phone ny accidentally upgrading to the latest firmware. I am using a foreign simcard so if I have read correctly, wont be able to use the phone function until the updated Pwnage tool is released. However, i have tried to blackra1n my phone – I get the GeoHot image but when the phone reboots…no icon menu!!! Can anyone tell me what i have done wrong? I thought i could’ve at least had an iPod until the new Pwnage tool was released…
